Critical Parts Management: Never Let a Missing Part Stop Your Line

Norck's Critical Part Management (CPM) program secures your critical machined, sheet metal and molded parts — in stock, in spec, on time. One annual supply agreement, one quality system, one partner in the U.S. and Germany.

Already a Norck customer? Add your existing parts to CPM in one step.

The Problem: One Missing Part Can Stop Everything

Every plant has parts it simply can't run without — a shaft, a bracket, a housing, a fixture, a wear component. When one of these critical parts is out of stock or out of tolerance, a machine stops, shipments slip and the cost of downtime quickly exceeds the value of the part many times over.

The risk is highest when a part is:

  • Single-sourcedOne supplier, no backup.
  • Long-leadWeeks or months to reorder.
  • ObsoleteThe original manufacturer no longer makes it, or the drawing no longer exists.
  • Ordered reactivelyBought only after it fails, at expedite prices.

The Solution: What Is Critical Part Management?

Critical Part Management is a planned approach to parts inventory management for custom, made-to-drawing components. Instead of emergency orders, Norck manufactures your critical parts in advance under an annual supply agreement, holds agreed stock levels, and releases parts just in time as you consume them.

In practice, CPM works like a vendor managed inventory (VMI) program for custom parts: you define the parts and expected annual usage; we plan production, verify quality and keep stock ready. It applies equally to MRO parts and to recurring production components.

What We Offer

1

Annual Supply Agreements with Blanket Purchase Orders

Lock in pricing for a year of expected volume and receive scheduled or on-demand call-offs instead of placing repeat orders.

2

Just-in-Time Delivery and Kanban Stocking

Parts are stocked at Norck and released just in time, or replenished through a kanban signal when your stock hits a reorder point.

3

Free First Article + FAI Report

For qualified parts under an annual supply agreement, we manufacture a free first article with a full First Article Inspection (FAI) report so you can verify fit, form and function before series production.

4

Consistent Quality Across Every Batch

ISO 9001:2015 certified quality management, documented inspection and batch traceability.

5

Multi-Process Manufacturing Under One Roof

CNC machining, sheet metal fabrication, 3D printing, injection molding and urethane casting, so you can consolidate dozens of vendors into one.

6

Engineering Support

Our engineers review material, tolerances and manufacturability, and suggest cost or lead-time improvements where useful.

No Drawing? No Problem: Reverse Engineering and Obsolete Parts Manufacturing

Many of the most critical parts in a plant are the ones nobody has a drawing for anymore. The original supplier is gone, the machine is 20 years old, and the only reference is the worn part in your hand.

Once reverse engineered, the part joins your CPM program — documented, stocked and reorderable at any time.

Norck can:

  • Reverse engineer a physical sample — we measure your part and create a production-ready 3D model and 2D drawing.
  • Manufacture obsolete and discontinued parts — reproduce legacy components that are no longer available from the OEM.
  • Improve on the original — upgrade material, finish or design where the original part was a known failure point.

How It Works

  1. Send Your PartsSend your drawings, CAD files or physical samples of the parts you want to secure, along with estimated annual usage.
  2. Engineering ReviewWe check manufacturability and, if needed, reverse engineer parts without drawings.
  3. Quote and Supply PlanYou receive pricing plus a proposed blanket PO, stock levels and delivery schedule.
  4. First Article and FAIWe produce and inspect the first article for your approval.
  5. Production, Stocking and JIT ReleaseParts are manufactured, held in stock and delivered as you need them.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is critical part management?

Critical part management is a planned sourcing and stocking strategy for the parts a production line cannot run without. The supplier manufactures those parts in advance, holds agreed stock levels and delivers them just in time, so the customer avoids unplanned downtime and emergency orders.

Which parts should be in a CPM program?

Parts that are single-sourced, have long lead times, are obsolete, or would stop production if they failed. Typical examples are custom shafts, brackets, housings, fixtures, wear parts and MRO parts.

Can you manufacture a part without a drawing?

Yes. Norck can reverse engineer a physical sample by measuring it and creating a 3D model and 2D drawing. The part can then be manufactured and added to your CPM program.

How does a blanket PO with JIT delivery work?

A blanket purchase order covers your expected volume for a set period, usually 12 months, at a fixed price. Norck produces and stocks the parts, and you call off quantities as needed, either on a schedule or through kanban replenishment.

Is the first article really free?

For qualified parts under an annual supply agreement, yes. We manufacture the first article and provide a First Article Inspection (FAI) report so you can approve the part before series production.

Is CPM the same as vendor managed inventory (VMI)?

CPM works similarly to VMI, but for custom, made-to-drawing parts rather than catalog items. Norck manages production planning and stock levels based on your agreed usage.

Where do you deliver?

Norck supports customers across North America and Europe from its operations in the U.S. and Germany.
